Environmental Graphic Design (EGD) embraces many design disciplines including graphic, architectural, interior, landscape, and industrial design, all concerned with the visual aspects of wayfinding, communicating identity and information, and shaping the idea of creating experiences that connect people to place.

CHALLENGE: Reflecting Vision and Vitality

The Metropolitan YMCA building is located in a prime district in Singapore. Renovation work on the building was timed to coincide with a major brand overhaul. More than just a refurbishment, we wanted the new space to reflect the renewed vision and vitality of the rejuvenated MYMCA brand.

SOLUTION: Designing An Experiential Visual Identity

Activiste worked with the client’s interior designer to make the space more evocative of the renewed MYMCA brand. More than signage and wayfinding, we believe that environmental graphics is about placemaking — giving the space an experiential visual identity that connects people to what the brand stands for.

IMPACT: Evoking Delight And Surprise

Early responses to the new space have been encouraging and indeed at the relaunch of the MYMCA brand to YMCA representatives from all over the world, many were delighted and surprised at the extent of the change.

“…We had just undertaken sessions on reframing our strategic vision and mission, were also at the stage of finalising the interior design and external facade. A clear brand approach lent discipline to our approach, and the results are visible.”
